In 2009, Presbyterian Senior Living was honored to receive the PANPHA (Pennsylvania Association of Not-for-Profit Homes for the Aging) Award for “Outstanding Advocacy” for the bold steps our organization has taken over the years to advance the cause for advocacy for the senior population in Pennsylvania and beyond.
From local “Town Hall” meetings to the halls of U.S. Senate and Congress, Presbyterian Senior Living has dedicated itself to spreading the message that issues affecting seniors must be discussed, understood, and acted upon by lawmakers to reflect current needs. Beginning in 2004 with a host of Legislative Breakfasts, Presbyterian Senior Living has steadily incorporated advocacy efforts as part of ongoing organizational operations. As of 2009, there are 15 communities both in and outside of Pennsylvania that represent Presbyterian Senior Living on local, state, and federal issues. Over the course of the past five years, Presbyterian Senior Living communities have responded to PANPHA and others’ calls for action to participate in Medical Assistance hearings across the state; submitted letters to the IRRC and local and state legislators to oppose revised Pennsylvania Assisted Living regulations; and have been regular participants in both the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging’s annual visits to speak to representatives on Capitol Hill and in PANPHA’s Advocacy Day at the State Capitol.
If you’d like to learn more about Presbyterian Senior Living’s grassroots advocacy efforts in your community, please contact your Executive Director.
